THEY suffered at Caesarea, in Palestine, at the same time with thosementioned yesterday, but are named on this day in the Roman Martyrology. The Chair of St. Dunstan in the see of Worcester about the year 959. He accordingly said mass again, andwith such raptures of devotion, as obliged him to continue long absorbedin ecstasy.
THIS great festival takes its name from the happy tidings brought by theangel Gabriel to the Blessed Virgin Mary, concerning the incarnation ofthe Son of God. What thanks, what fidelity and love dowe not owe him for this inestimable grace! When he decreed to call us tohis holy faith, cleanse us from e contrived to sleep on twigs, which he secretly laid on his bed, wore a hair shirt, and used severe disciplines. Dom Martennehas set this in a much fuller light in his preface to the sixth tome ofhis great collection.
